Blanche lifespan, how long will it last?

Laminate longevity, the number one question patients want to know

Here’s one of the most common questions I hear in dental consultations.

“Mr. Director, how long does laminate last?”
If you actually search the internet, you’ll find that “laminate is replaced every two to three years.

“It’ll last 10 years or more,” and so on.

This gap in information is often confusing for patients.

Laminate life expectancy, according to a paper
Laminate life depends on the dentist’s technique, the material, and the patient’s care habits.

In a study by Beier et al (2012, Int J Prosthodont), the 10-year survival rate of laminates was reported to be over 91%.

Layton & Walton (2012, J Dent) found that they can be used for over 20 years, with the average lasting over 15 years.

In other words, with the right diagnosis, treatment, and care, laminate can be a long-term investment, not a short-term fix.

Factors that reduce laminate life

There are many reasons why laminate life can be shortened.

  • Nerve damage from excessive tooth removal
  • Mismatched bite (biting force)
  • Use of low-cost materials and improper bonding
  • Lifestyle habits such as grinding and teeth clenching
  • Lack of management (lack of scaling and regular checkups)

At the end of the day, material selection + crafting + care determine longevity.

Real patient experience – 12 year old laminate

I had a male patient in his 40s who came in the other day.

I had laminate work done 12 years ago at another dentist, and while some of it was still intact, the color had changed and some of the edges had fallen off.

Upon diagnosis, we realized that the material we were using was a relatively thick and opaque ceramic, and the bonding method was different from today’s, so while it lasted, it was not aesthetically pleasing.

In the end, she chose to have the procedure done again with Blanche.

After the procedure, the patient said
“I’m relieved that I didn’t have to shave my teeth this time, and the color is much more natural.”

Care tips to extend the life of your laminate

To make the laminate last, patients need to take care of themselves.

  • Routine checkups: see a dentist at least every six months
  • Scaling: A must for gum health
  • Break a habit: Avoid grinding your teeth or biting your nails
  • Food caution: Beware of hard or sticky foods

Blanche, in particular, has preserved teeth, which should be stable for a much longer period of time with good care.

Laminate Longevity, It’s All About Dental Choice

I’m ashamed to say it, but it’s the truth.

Laminate lifespan is not simply a matter of “years”.
It completely depends on how much tooth reduction was done, what materials were used, and who performed the procedure.

At Blanche Dental, we use 100% Swiss-made feldspar ceramics that are precisely crafted to less than 0.2mm and minimize tooth removal to ensure long-term stability.

We treat your teeth as if they were our own, and we want to give you the perfect smile.

We believe this is the way to make it last.
