A veneers consultation can go two ways. In one, you leave with a quote. In the other, you leave knowing which of your teeth actually need treatment and why.
The difference matters more than most people expect. Patients who later regret their veneers rarely say the price was wrong. They say nobody explained what was being changed.
This article covers what a proper consultation examines, the questions worth asking before you commit, and how the process works when you are flying in from another country.
A note from Dr. Kim — Many people who land on this page share one quiet worry: what if I damage healthy teeth for nothing? It is the first question I ask myself with every patient.
Blanche began with that question: why harm a natural tooth worth more than any restoration? That is why our signature Blanche no-prep veneers follow one rule — minimal intervention, maximum beauty.
What a veneers consultation should actually examine
A consultation is a diagnosis. Five things should be looked at before anyone talks about materials or numbers.
1. The shape and position of your natural teeth
Veneers sit on the front surface. That means the position of the tooth underneath sets the limit on what the final result can look like.
A tooth that leans forward cannot simply be covered. It either needs a small amount of reduction, or orthodontics first.
2. Your bite
Your lower teeth touch your upper teeth thousands of times a day. Where they land decides how thick the porcelain can be at the biting edge.
Skipping this step is the most common reason a veneer chips within the first year. It is also the least visible part of the exam to the patient.
3. Gum health and gum line
Porcelain meets the tooth at a margin, and that margin usually sits near the gum. Inflamed or receding gums move that line.
4. The colour you are starting from
Porcelain is translucent. Some light passes through it, so the underlying tooth colour affects the final shade.
This is why shade selection happens at the consultation, not on the day of fitting. Our veneers shade guide explains what A1, B1 and BL actually mean.
5. How much enamel you have
Enamel is what porcelain bonds to best. How much you have decides whether a no-prep approach is realistic for you.
We cover that decision in detail in our guide to no-prep veneers.
Six questions worth asking at your veneers consultation

Most patients ask about price first. These six questions tell you more.
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| How many teeth do you recommend, and why that number? | The count should come from your smile line, not from a package |
| How much tooth structure will be removed? | Removal is permanent; the answer should be specific |
| Which bonding system do you use? | Adhesive quality affects margin staining and longevity |
| Where is the lab, and who designs the shape? | An in-house lab means changes happen in the chair, not by courier |
| What is included in the quoted figure? | Trial fitting and adjustment visits are often billed separately |
| What happens if I do not like the shape? | Remake terms should be agreed before, not after |
The bonding question surprises people. Patients compare ceramic brands carefully and then never ask what holds the ceramic on.
We use the Ivoclar adhesive system. It sits at the higher end of adhesive pricing, but it is biocompatible and resists the colour change that makes older margins look dark over time.
Think of it like hanging a mirror. Everyone examines the frame, and nobody asks about the fixing behind it until it fails.
Planning a veneers consultation from abroad
If you are travelling to Seoul, the consultation does not have to start when you land. It can start weeks earlier with photographs.
What to send
Four photos cover most of it: a relaxed smile, a wide smile, the upper teeth alone, and your bite closed from the front. Natural daylight, no filters.
From those we can usually tell whether veneers are the right approach, roughly how many teeth are involved, and whether anything needs to happen first.
What a photo review cannot replace
Photographs do not show your bite forces or the condition under existing fillings. Those need an in-person examination and X-rays.
So the photo stage narrows the plan and rules out surprises. It does not finalise the treatment.
Fitting a veneers consultation into a trip
Same-day treatment compresses diagnosis, design, fabrication and adjustment into one visit. Our in-house lab, Blanche Lab, is what makes that schedule possible, and it is why same-day treatment is priced above the standard route.
For the full one-day programme — technology, pricing, and booking — see our One-Day Veneers page.
Our fees are the same for Korean and international patients. You can review them on our pricing page before you travel.
Not sure where your case fits? Send two photos — front and smiling — on WhatsApp. We will tell you what is possible before you book any flight.
Signs a veneers consultation is going the wrong way
A few patterns are worth noticing while you are in the chair.
The first is a number arriving before an examination. A quote given from a photo of a celebrity smile is a product, not a plan.
The second is a fixed package of eight or ten teeth offered to everyone. The right count depends on how wide your smile opens, which we explain in our guide to how many veneers you need.
The third is no mention of aftercare. What happens in the first week shapes the result, and that belongs in the conversation before you agree, not after. We set it out in our veneers aftercare guide.
Frequently asked questions
Is a veneers consultation free?
Policies vary between clinics, and some charge for diagnostic records such as X-rays or scans. Ask when you book so the answer is clear before you arrive.
How long does a veneers consultation take?
Plan for around thirty to sixty minutes for a first visit including examination and discussion. A photo review before you travel usually shortens the in-person part.
Can I get veneers on the same day as my consultation?
Yes. Same-day treatment includes the diagnosis and design within that visit, though sending photos in advance makes the day run more smoothly.
Side effects and individual variation
Veneers may involve temporary sensitivity, gum irritation, or an adjustment period in speech and biting, and the degree varies between individuals. Any treatment plan described here is general information and not a diagnosis of your case.
Your own plan should follow an examination and a discussion of the alternatives.
A closing thought
After years of these appointments, the ones that go well have something in common. The patient leaves able to explain the plan back to me in their own words.
That is the standard I aim for. If you cannot repeat why a particular tooth is being treated, the consultation is not finished yet.
Bring your photos, or bring a quote you have already received. We can read through it together.
