Minimal prep veneers in Seoul are often described as “almost no drilling.” That is true, but it leaves out the most useful question: how much is shaved, and why?
Most people who search for this have read about no-prep veneers first. Then a clinic tells them their teeth need “a little shaping,” and they wonder if that is a warning sign.
This guide explains what minimal prep means in numbers, who it suits better than no-prep, and how the process fits into a visit to Seoul.
A note from Dr. Kim — Many people who land on this page share one quiet worry: what if I damage healthy teeth for nothing? It is the first question I ask myself with every patient.
Blanche began with that question: why harm a natural tooth worth more than any restoration? That is why our signature Blanche no-prep veneers follow one rule — minimal intervention, maximum beauty.
Minimal Prep Veneers Seoul: What They Actually Are
A veneer is a thin ceramic shell bonded to the front of a tooth. The difference between types is how much of your own enamel is removed first.
With no-prep veneers, nothing is removed. The ceramic is bonded straight onto the untouched surface.
With minimal prep veneers, the surface is lightly smoothed. The goal is not to make room for thick ceramic. It is to remove small bulges and define a clean edge.
A useful way to picture it is sanding a door before repainting it. You do not strip the wood. You only smooth the high spots so the new coat lies flat and does not look lumpy at the edges.
Conventional veneers go further. They usually remove about 0.5 to 0.7 mm of enamel so a thicker shell can sit flush.

Minimal prep veneers Seoul: how they compare
The table below shows where minimal prep sits between the two other approaches.
| No-prep | Minimal prep | Conventional | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enamel removed | None | Light smoothing only | About 0.5–0.7 mm |
| Best for | Small teeth, gaps, mild shade change | Slight bulges, uneven edges, small shape change | Dark shades, larger shape change |
| Anesthesia | Usually not needed | Usually not needed | Often needed |
| Risk of a bulky look | Higher if the case is not suitable | Lower | Low |
| Enamel preserved | Almost all | Most | Partial |
The key point is that minimal prep is not a weaker version of no-prep. For some teeth, it is the option that preserves enamel and still looks natural.
Minimal Prep Veneers Seoul: When a Little Shaping Beats None
No-prep sounds ideal, and for the right teeth it is. But ceramic added on top of a tooth always adds some thickness.
If a tooth already sits slightly forward, adding thickness makes it look even more prominent. A light smoothing of the high spot prevents that.
The same applies at the edges near the gum. A clean, defined margin helps the ceramic blend in and makes daily cleaning easier.
In our experience, the most common minimal prep case is a front tooth that is slightly rotated or uneven. Shaving a small amount from one area lets the new shell follow a straight line.
A clinic that promises zero shaving for every case is not being careful. The honest answer depends on the position, shade and bite of your own teeth.

Minimal Prep Veneers Seoul: Who Is a Good Candidate

1. Healthy enamel
Ceramic bonds most reliably to enamel. If enamel is already thin from wear, the plan needs extra care.
2. A mild shade change
Thin ceramic can brighten teeth, but it cannot fully hide a very dark tooth. A strong color difference may need more thickness.
3. Enough room in the bite
Your lower teeth touch the back of your upper front teeth. The plan must leave that contact comfortable.
4. Stable gums
Gum health comes first. Inflamed gums are treated before any veneer work begins.
If your teeth are badly crowded, we may suggest orthodontic alignment first. That is a question of preserving tooth structure, not a limit of the veneer method.

Minimal Prep Veneers Seoul: What Affects the Cost
Minimal prep veneers are not automatically cheaper than conventional ones. Thin ceramic is harder to make well, so laboratory work often takes more skill.
Cost depends on the ceramic grade, how much of the work is done by hand, the number of teeth, and the quality of the bonding system.
Bonding matters more than most people expect. We use the Ivoclar adhesive system, which sits at the highest price tier among dental adhesives.
It is chosen because it is biocompatible and has strong color stability, so the bonded edge resists staining over time. For a breakdown of per-tooth fees, see Veneers Korea Cost.

Planning Your Minimal Prep Veneers Seoul Visit

1. Send photographs first
We ask for photographs in advance. That lets us discuss shade, shape and whether minimal prep suits you before you book a flight.
2. Design before anything is shaved
Your smile design is agreed first. Any shaving is planned against that design, so only what is needed is removed.
3. In-house lab
Our in-house laboratory, Blanche Lab, makes the ceramic on site. Shade and fit can be adjusted the same day without sending work outside.

4. Bonding and check
The bite and the edges are checked after bonding. You leave with clear aftercare instructions.
For the full one-day program — technology, pricing, and booking — see our One-Day Veneers page.
Our pricing is the same for Korean and international patients. The clinic is in Nonhyeon, Gangnam, about an hour from Incheon Airport by airport bus or taxi.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is minimal prep the same as no-prep?
No. No-prep removes nothing. Minimal prep lightly smooths the surface so the veneer sits flush and does not look bulky.
Q. Does minimal prep need anesthesia?
Usually not. The shaping stays within the enamel, so most patients are comfortable without it.
Q. Can I have minimal prep veneers during a short trip to Seoul?
Yes. With photographs reviewed in advance and an in-house lab, design, fabrication and bonding can be scheduled within your visit.
Side Effects and Individual Differences
After veneer treatment, temporary sensitivity or a foreign-body feeling can occur. Treatment methods and results vary with each person’s tooth condition, so please decide after an accurate diagnosis and consultation.
I am a dentist trained at Seoul National University, and I have spent ten years working mainly with veneers. My principle is simple: keep as much of your own tooth as the result allows.
At our clinic this approach has a name: Blanche no-prep veneers. The goal is always to keep your enamel where it belongs.
If you would like to know whether your teeth suit minimal prep, we can start from photographs.
